It is with great joy and a deep sense of purpose that we present the inaugural issue of Holistic Higher Ed: A Resource for Understanding and Reflection on University Education. The first edition is dedicated to tracing the philosophical roots, enduring vision and educational values of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) - the religious congregation that established CHRIST (Deemed to be University) and continues to guide its educational mission. It also serves as a tribute to the CMI Year of Education, reaffirming our shared commitment to the holistic vision of learning.
Our chosen theme, "Rooted in Vision, Flourishing Through Values," reflects the foundational belief that education is not merely about knowledge acquisition but about the integral development of the human person. For the CMI congregation, education has always been a sacred vocation - a means to cultivate compassionate, ethical and socially responsible individuals capable of serving the world with wisdom and humility.
This issue offers a reflective and scholarly tribute to that legacy. Each article brings into focus the CMI's rich heritage of holistic education, which continues to animate CHRIST (Deemed to be University)'s mission in contemporary times. As a matter of design, all contributions in this inaugural issue are authored by members of CHRIST (Deemed to be University) - its faculty, administrators and researchers who carry forward the CMI educational ethos in diverse capacities. Their voices present an authentic and grounded portrayal of how this vision is lived, practised and innovated within our academic ecosystem.
Future issues of Holistic Higher Ed will broaden the conversation by welcoming diverse voices from across academic and professional communities. The journal aspires to become a vibrant platform for exploring education as a means of advancing human development - deeply rooted in the values of compassion, dignity, service, critical thinking, inclusivity and environmental responsibility.
As you engage with Holistic Higher Ed, we invite you to reflect on the enduring power of value-based education. May the insights offered here serve not only as academic contributions but also as invitations to deeper contemplation on what it means to educate the whole person.
